Poem: Navigator

A faded chart

Having surpassed the milestone of 100 wonderful people to share the blogging adventure with, I thought this poem might be an appropriate post. Written in the 2007-2008 timeframe, it was an exploration of the A-B-C-C-B-A rhyme scheme.

I sail across a sea of time
Making reference to an ancient chart
Faded markings in a faded script
As sleekly through the waves I slip
Guided by the compass of my heart
So that I seek your love divine

Ev’ry age age my quest begins anew
Always in a ship not quite the same
The sky above appears so strange
As if the stars have rearrange’d
And thus the heavens I must tame
As I begin my search for you

With Polaris as my guide
I stand upon uncovered deck
And brace against the salt night air
As of my course I’m most aware
My heading then again I’ll check
And by my compass I’ll abide

My eyes reflect the endless days
That I have put to sea for you
Not always knowing where I was
At times uncertain, this because
I hadn’t learned what I’d to do
Even though I’d sailed a ways

Yet now I sail with purpose strong
And mark my course with firm resolve
My uncertainty at its nadir
Thus towards you do I steer
While thoughts of you around revolve
So I can be where I belong

To horizon then I gaze afar
Drawn by an unspoken need
To the edge of sea and sky
I no longer wonder why
My compass I know I must heed
To take me where I know you are

The vestiges of land I view
Through the distant picture of my glass
The thought of you is restless, though
But soon the sight of you I’ll know
A boundless love I’ll then amass
And thus my fortitude renew

I see you now upon the shore
I see the love within your eyes
This love that is reserved for me
This love that is so plain to see
Carried on escaping sighs
A love that I so do adore

I hold you tight, so close to me
Together then we stand at last
Once again your love I know
Without restraint, which you bestow
As you have in ages past
As in ages that we’ve yet to see

I sail across a timeless sea
With reference to a faded chart
Faint markings in an ancient script
Firmly through the waves I slip
Guided by the compass of my heart
In a journey through eternity
